There’s a crazy plethora of food business events happening this March across California. As they appeared in my inbox, a visual road trip crossed my mind.
March 7-10th, 2013 a big chunk of the natural food world will flock to ExpoWest in Anaheim, California.
On March 10th hop in your car (preferably not at rush hour) to head north to Fresno for the California Small Farms conference, through the 12th. This conference is a must for any food company working with farmers. It “unites farmers, researchers, complementary service providers described as ” state’s premier gathering of small farmers, agricultural students, farmers’ market managers and others involved in the small farm industry. The three day educational conference includes day-long short courses and on-farm tours; focused workshops; engaging keynote addresses and numerous networking opportunities.” I even learned how to start a CSA.
Next on the agenda: Lolly gag in the central valley discovering farms and possible suppliers (like Just Tomatoes and Valley Fig), maybe even getting in some spring skiing. You’ll have learned about lots of companies at ExpoWest!
On the 14th, the Fresno Food Expo highlights foods made in the central valley. “What’s that got to do with me?” you may be wondering. Plenty of growers and co-packers are based in the Fresno area. If you’re on the hunt for partners or suppliers, the expo, which includes innovation awards, could be fun and interesting.
Wind your way to the coast where much delicious citrus ripens against the mountains, helped by fog. Crafters and those into the DIY scene should check out Craftcation Conference which starts March 21st. I’m participating in the conference and we’ll have some fun tracks about getting started, even out of your kitchen.
You can then loop back down the LA area if you flew in or keep on truckin’ home, wherever that may be.
Now, what conferences did I miss?
