First off, I LOVE the Fancy Food Show iPhone app. It is very easy to use, with a great search, planner, notes, floor maps and all sorts of cool features. With this app, you’ll only have yourself to blame if you miss anything at the Winter 2014 show. (Not really, it’s SO hard to do it all!)
Here are 5 sessions and products that look particularly struck my fancy:
How to Become a Supermarket Superstar (Monday) will outline the success strategies that all food entrepreneurs and companies can use to create the next brand success.
Weaving Waste into Profit: Foraging Within Your Company (Tuesday) should help restauranteurs, food manufacturers and retailers alike. Making good of food waste is an important trend to learn about and consider, for everyone’s benefit. This is the last educational session scheduled, which begs the question: Will there be plenty of food waste from the show on hand as food for thought?
Tequila-infused smoke salmon from Maine’s Sullivan Smokehouse, at the Maine International Trade Center (booth 5704), looks worth exploring. I can’t wait to find out how much tequila the salmon had to drink for the flavor to come through.
Flavored marshmallow-sandwiched s’mores from Torn Ranch (booth 645) may be worth a winter camping trip. Yes, the s’more trend has been around quite a while. But these sound different: “two premium graham crackers filled with house-made lemon, strawberry, or marshmallow crème” covered with dark chocolate. It’s lighting my fire!
Downton Abbey teas from Republic of Tea (book 570) win the zeitgeist award! While I am the last person to not watch that show, I’m guessing their 3 flavors (English Rose Tea, Grantham Breakfast Blend and Downton Estate Blend) will become a choice for teetotalers and fan tea parties. I can only hope they have people dressed up at the booth. 🙂
It looks like lots of companies are introducing inspired new products. I really can’t wait for the show and to start spotting trends! If you have any requests or observations, do comment or send me a note.
