While I could live on my pick of the show — Petit Pot puddings and pots de creme — the Natural Products Expo had plenty “better for you” snacks and food innovations. Here are just a few that stood out from the hundreds I tasted.
What do most of them have in common?
Crunch, crunch.
Most just happen to be gluten free as a side benefit.

Freeze-dried kefir bites look a little odd but it’s so much fun to have the crunch along with the taste of kefir. Lifeway makes these “ProBugs” in various flavors like these blueberry specimens.

Just when you thought there were no new food left to be discovered, along comes Pili nuts from Southeast Asia. They’re crunch, flavorful, and of course good for you.

If there’s an ingredient there’s a chip or cracker, these days. I love the metallic on the Cassava Crunch packaging along with the crunch these gluten-free chips pack.

For breakfast, vendors like Navitas handed out snacks like these lightly dusted, savory cacao almonds which paired very well with maple yogurt. 😉

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Flour. These gluten-free cauliflower crust Caulipower pizzas are one of the true better-for-you innovations, tasting just like old-fashioned pizza. Note the excellent, eye-catching display to draw interest at the booth.

Lundberg noticed there aren’t a lot of organic appetizers on the market. Their black rice arancini rice balls in bite-sized pieces are an answer to that need. Survey says delicious and handy.

Long-time pretzel makers Dieffenbach’s have turned ugly potatoes into lemonade with a fun line of kettle cooked “ugly potato” chips. (The Uglies chips themselves are not ugly and, in fact, the flavors are delectable. Notice the smart display at the booth that lays out the compelling case for getting ugly.
