As always, the Fancy Food Show lured thousands of food buyers and lovers to discover what is new in specialty / gourmet foods. Drinking vinegars, gelato, snackable versions of popular foods, as well as versions of familiar foods made with better-for-you ingredients dominated the show.
Discover a few foods and drinks that caught my eye, whether related to current trends or for being remarkable in their own right. And yes, I ate. A lot.
- Purity Organic is all over the real-fruit-flavored soda craze, with beautifully painted graphics on their cans.
- The Oregon Food Innovation center came up with a pasta made of white fish and potato. Unexplainably tasty! It’s not actually on the market.
- Numi Tea told the story of simple, natural ingredients laid out before our very eyes.
- Quince paste speaks for itself.
- Skinny Salamis are put snacking salami within reach. They built a factory specifically to make their cigarillo sized salamis, which come in amazing flavors like Lamb Merguez. They’re not a meat stick – they’re a real salumi. These will definitely be on my mind. http://amzn.to/2BnJGzJ
- Cute kits to make things like gummy bears caught my eye.
- Le Bon Magot keeps winning awards for a good reason. All of their condiments are unusual and unusually good.
- Rustic Bakery keeps coming out with great new cookies and crackers.
- I won this awesome microwaveable fondue pot from Boska, the cheese accessories company. Can’t wait to party with it!
- If you love garlic and chile and don’t know Chile Crunch, you haven’t lived. http://amzn.to/2DvlrBJ
- An exciting sighting. 🙂
- Sake and Smoked Padron flavors, along with adorable jars and labels, make this Santa Cruz brand, Friend in Cheeses, one to follow.
- Mole in pouches from Mexico – finally an answer to the sandwich bag filled with mole paste that’s sitting in my fridge.
- The show featured lots of English toffee, and this R&J stands out for gifty packaging and a perfect crunch – as did V Chocolates which has several toffees and a “turtle” in a sea turtle shape. Cute, yummy and beautiful https://www.vchocolates.com
- Jacobsen’s Sea Salt presented in a big shell. What else can I say? Their confections are as alluring as their pure salt and flavored salts.
- Snackable formats are everything.
- Cannoli Chips not only come in snack sized bags but in a big box along with a dessert dip, I think based on ricotta, at East Coast Costcos. What a great idea and very well executed too.
- Clusters of all sorts dominated the 2018 winter Fancy Food Show. These Road Crew Clusters and coconut clusters from Alter Eco were just a few that I loved.
- Little Secrets has a new fan: me. The coconut filled balls and peanut butter filled have delicate shells, just enough salt, and you can taste the quality of the fillings. The chocolate is dark but not too dark. http://amzn.to/2F7ip76
- Marlo’s Bakeshop has some awesome new little cookies based on family heritage recipes. The Sesami Tahini cookies are unusual and heavenly.
- Passion fruit was everywhere at the show, and that’s a good thing.
- Gold on cardamom? I’m not sure why but they look cool and are surprisingly cheap. It’s a breath freshener that’s pretty much like eating a caradamom pod: powerful.
