Last year I wrote about the Heirloom Cacao Project and the experience of tasting 3 exceptional chocolates made with rare cacao beans dubbed as “heirloom.”
Good news for bean-to-bar chocolate makers and lovers of chocolate with flavor profiles beyond the bland: The Heirloom Cacao Preservation Fund (HCP) recently announced a new batch of cacao designated as “heirloom” due to the remarkable flavor profiles of cocoa beans from 2 growers:
- Tujikomboe Farmers Group, Tanzania
- Akesson’s Bejofo Estate, Madagascar (The good news is you can try the grower’s house-brand of chocolate right now.)
They become, respectively, the fourteenth and fifteenth HCP Heirloom cacao designations made since the 2014 inaugural Heirlooms.
You’ll find the flavor profiles of both chocolates from start to finish on the Heirloom Cacao Project pages.
You can get your hands on chocolate made with heirloom cacao from sellers around the world for your very own tasting.
Guittard Chocolate’s 150th anniversary celebrations are underway with a nod to chocolate history!
