How do you get customers excited about buying holiday gifts locally…and lots of them?
Insanely fun and unique packages you can’t find anywhere else is a good start, as is a focus on alcohol.
Costco in the 2018 holiday season had sooooo much more than I’d ever seen. Multiple fun European cookie gift packs. Several options for Belgian and Swiss chocolate variety boxes.
And a dozen or so spirit and beer gift packs.
All dressed up and ready to give.
They even had – gasp – staff walking around helping people! A little anyway. Still seeing someone actually standing with a customer and answering his questions about different food gifts was remarkably foreign.
You’re usually lucky to even see an employee in the belly of the beast.
Why is this worth writing about?
It’s no secret every retailer is in a scramble to thrive amidst the competition of online sellers.
This holiday I’m loving working at the legendary Market Hall in Rockridge where customers are often blown away by the large array of foods that fill a deliciously small space. What I love is suggesting how to combine a few things into an experiential themed food gift much as food baskets do. (Come see me!)
That too is what Costco has done before but is doing in overdrive this holiday.
It’s worth seeing their baskets and all the possibilities makers have to fit into gift baskets or to come up with clever gift packs.
As for Costco I won’t be surprised if they have their best quarter yet!
