For yeeeeears I’d resisted investing in a Vitamix blender. Did I really need a Vitamix given my reliable $29 blender? Would I really make lots of smoothies, soups and nut / seed butters from scratch?
The answers to the above are YES and YES.
An I Love Lucy-style demo at Costco sold me when the woman threw a whole lemon into her Vitamix. The Vitamix handily macerated it into smoothie oblivion like a wood chipper does to, well, you know.
After grinding up a ton of frozen berries and peaches when visiting my sister in Oregon within hours of receiving my blender, I became a true believer and even joined the Vitamix affiliate program.
I usually don’t write long rave reviews about products, but I firmly do believe every household needs a high-powered blender whether a Vitamix or not!
When the dentist said I could only eat liquids after getting my tooth pulled, things got really crazy with the Vitamix.
There are a few times when we all may need to live on liquids diets for a few days. While my wisdom teeth are a distant memory, a cracked tooth episode landed me on the “smoothies only” diet for about 10 days.
My experience of looking to my Vitamix for about 25 meals inspired me to share what I have learned.

7 Great Reasons Why Every Home and Food Business Needs a Vitamix
5. Get your daily fiber without chewing — They say 95% of people don’t eat enough fiber daily.
Especially for people who are challenged to chew lots of roughage, soups and smoothies can be a boon. I love to grind up kale, garlic, olive oil and nuts for an instant pesto which is great by the spoonful or on crackers.
6. Reduce the number of appliances in your kitchen — Most people can get by with just a Vitamix, no need to also have a food processor. One less thing cluttering your life!
7. When you are ordered to not eat and only drink liquids — For older people, your parents or grandparents, a Vitamix is an amazing way to stay healthy.
For several years green Odwalla shakes in half gallon bottles were a staple for my mom. We bought them at Costco figuring it was a good way to get her plenty of greens.
Conventional smoothie drinks are kind of yucky:
- The smoothies are usually sweet fruit-based and have a lot of sugar even if there is no sugar added.
- The ingredients aren’t organic and in fact who knows where they’re from (likely the cheapest source).
- Buying such foods gets really expensive and you’re lots of plastic into the waste or recycling stream
Oh I Love Trash (Smoothies) – Your Instant Fix of Daily Nutrients
Imagine telling your kids it’s time to make their garbage soup. Fun or disgusting?
Here are some Vitamix “Everything But the Kitchen Sink” recipes that saved me after my tooth extraction:
First, it’s important to get plenty of protein and calcium when healing from wisdom teeth extractions or other operations. I love nuts and seeds, so it was a little traumatizing to have to avoid them. I made up for it by using plenty of nut butter along with doctoring soup from boxes with more fresh vegetables.
I discovered that some ingredients can cover the flavors of super healthy ingredients and the less sweet parts of vegetables like carrot tops. Dark chocolate adds an extra treat, or when you use cocoa powder there’s no added sugar.
The recipes…
My Vitamix came with a recipe book which, honestly, I’ve never even read.
- Celery + steamed broccoli + Trader Joe’s Red Pepper tapenade + Better Than Boullion beef boullion + leftover Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Soup = lunch!
- Celery + peanut butter + milk = celery and peanut butter shake! It’s actually really yummy.
- Greek soup with spinach, dill, garlic, yogurt, water and olive oil – the longer you blend, the warmer it gets. It’s super yummy cold too.
- Dessert – chocolate and banana shake with almond butter
- Breakfast – I powdered oats within seconds and made “cream of oatmeal” with maple syrup. You can make your own oat milk that easily too!
It’s so easy to adjust flavors by tasting and throwing in salt or spices or some other ingredient.
You can leave the carafe in the refrigerator and finish the rest later if there’s too much.
Award-winning Banana Frozen Dessert Hack
Turns out the high calcium, high potassium, high everything shakes I had been spontaneously throwing together for my soft food diet — banana, dates, celery, kale, sesame tahini, carrots, and even Trader Joe’s Cruciferous shredded vegetable mix — was in line with the Natural Products Expo’s 2019 Pitch Slam-winning frozen dessert company Hakuna Banana.
So easy to make with your Vitamix!
Pros and Cons After Using My Vitamix For a Year
You just read about a ton of b
enefits the Vitamix will instantly bring to your life or business.
The cons are minor…
- Vitamix recommends that you wash the blender carafe by hand. I would love to be able to throw it in the dishwasher, but I’d rather make sure it has a long life. It’s just a slight drag. But then again I don’t use my dishwasher every day the way I use my Vitamix every day, so I probably would rarely use the washer anyway.
- You need to only use their tool for pushing down and mixing the ingredients in the blender. That’s because they made it just long enough to ensure it will never touch the blades. I found out the hard way what happens when you leave a spoon in the carafe and turn on the Vitamix. Let’s just say I didn’t get hurt but it wasn’t pretty. Vitamix customer service was great.
All in all, small cons for my favorite kitchen appliance that I look forward to using for many years to come!
